The villa is situated in a peaceful cul-de-sac, on the outskirts of Torrevieja, in a residential area dotted with citrus groves and small public gardens. The private swimming pool, shared with your immediate neighbours, is less than a minute's stroll away.

Within an easy walk are several bars and eateries, including a lively Andalusian restaurant with traditional musicians and Flamenco dancers. There is also a newsagent, an ice-cream parlour and various shops, including a supermarket.

A 30-minute walk reaches the sea, where more restaurants, bars and a promenade overlook the waves. You can then walk further, along the coast, to sandy beaches; just follow the promenade or, in the opposite direction, a rocky track leads to a secluded palm-fringed cove.

Within a 10 minute drive you will find several fine sandy beaches plus more bars, restaurants, shops and a hypermarket. A weekly street market is also held nearby. Torrevieja is a lively harbour town with an interesting history and 8 miles of seafront, with several promenades, beaches (most awarded the Blue Flag), a marina (with hundreds of fishing boats and private yachts), a sailing school and two diving centres. It also backs onto two large picturesque lakes, protected by a nature reserve, with 250 bird species, and great for walking or cycling around - you can hire bikes in town.

There's plenty to do and see as various parks, squares, historical monuments, churches and museums join nightclubs, bars, shops and restaurants to compete for your attention. Another street market is held weekly, as are several colourful festivals, throughout the year. As well as a water funpark, there is an olympic swimming pool, sports/gymnasium complex and 5 golf courses to choose from.

Alicante

Further afield are the day-trip destinations of Alicante (a great city with lots going on), La Manga (next to the picturesque Mar Menor, an inland sea separated from the Med by a thin strip of land, great for watersports), Elche (famous for its shoes) plus numerous small villages and rugged ranges of sierra to explore.
